3 Litre Brakes |

Compensating the rear wheel
brakes on the 1922 models is rather complicated,
but can be performed in the following manner.
First remove the split pin from the hub
nut, from the wheel that is locking on first,
and then the nut itself. Slacken the brakes
right off, remove the rear hubs, and remove
the "pull off" springs, and then
the brake levers onto the brake camshafts
should then be removed. The camshaft actually
operates the shoes, forcing them apart when
the brake is applied. The brake levers should
then be removed and great care should be
taken not to loose their keys, which are
in the camshaft.
Four wheel mechanical brakes were fitted
from September 1923, and a balance gear
is located across the frame, behind the
gearbox to ensure that the braking effort
is distributed evenly between all four wheels.
Taking up wear is very simple, and can be
made by one adjustment to the rear of the
lower end of the brake pedal.
