Felix Hartmann's 3 Litre chassis 790

I'm writing to you on behalf of my father, Felix Hartmann. Quite recently, some information and pictures have been posted about his Bentley on your website. In order to complete your wonderful website, I'd like to add some information, which you could post to his Bentley XU 9914.

 

 

The car is from 25th October 1924 when it was delivered to Lord Brecknock. It was fitted with 3 litre engine number 795 and was a Speed model based on 9'9" 1/2 wheelbase chassis. The body fitted was a 4 seater sports open top by Vanden Plas number 1085, and this is still fitted to the car. The original UK registration was XU 9914. I am also sending five photographs of this Bentley for your website."

 

Felix Hartmann from Sargans, Switzerland writes:
"I'm the lucky owner of this Bentley. It has been in my possession since 1973 and I have spent almost a lifetime caring for this beautiful car. It stands in a small private motorcar museum in Sargans, Switzerland. Thank you very much for the pictures and information about my car. As I'm trying to reconstruct the history of my Bentley, every bit of information and every picture is of immense value to me."

History of 3 Litre chassis 790
This car is from 25th October 1924 when it was delivered to Lord Brecknock. It was fitted with 3 litre engine number 795 and was a Speed model based on a 9' 9 1/2" wheelbase chassis. The body fitted was a 4 seater sports open top by Vanden Plas number 1085, and this is still fitted to the car. The original UK registration was XU 9914.

 

The next owner was W. Wise from Wolverhampton in 1929. He kept the car until early 1936 when it was then owned by a Mr. H. Rollinson from Hall Green, Birmingham. He kept the car until the end of the service records. The first post-war owner was a Major A. Condon R.E. from Military College of Science, Shrivenham, Wiltshire, England. He stated the engine was number 795 and the body to be a 4 seater by VDP. By 1948 ownership has transferred to Mr. G. Lloyd flom Grantpont near Oxford and he stated the engine to have been number 1037 S.

 

ln 1952 Mr. K. Wells from Pevensey Bay, Sussex owned the car and he stated the engine was number 794.

Mr. M.S. Wood from Llechryd in Wales had the car from 1952 to 1957 and he stated the engine to be 795. In 1957 ownership changed to Mr. M. Hawksby from Bletchley and he claimed the engine number to be 795. Mr. R Howling from St. Albans had the car in 1959. Mr Heidegger had the car from 1968 in Liechtenstein where it was registered as SG 1105 U. He stated the engine was 795. As I believe you are aware, in 1974 Mr Hartmann had the car. He stated the engine number was 795.
