Dr. John Williams' 3 Litre Bentley - Chassis No. TN1573
Contributed by John Williams (Son of former owner, Dr. John Williams)
This car was owned by Dr. John Williams of Worcester for a couple of years around 1948.
"I don't know much about the car, but remember being allowed to sit on my father's knee and steer it at the age of eight. It was not particularly attractive and it was a 'special' made out of a saloon some time in the late 1930s. Imagine destroying a saloon that was only about ten years old!
I do recall Father saying that the brake drums hit the road if there was a puncture. I don't have any pictures taken during the time my father had the car, but do have a page from The Autocar of 4 October 1940 containing a letter from the then owner (see next page), and a photo of the car, showing the wartime white "blackout" wings. He is making various points in his letter and claiming the benefits of 17-inch wheels, a chrome plated radiator, and an apron between the dumb-irons. I am not sure that these modifications would really be appreciated today!"
It appears evident from photo that the brake drums hit the road if there was a puncture. Photo from late-1930s.
