Harold Scott Pounds' Bentley GO 5629 in the 1950s-60s

Contributed by Daena Scott Butler (Daughter of former owner)

My father Harold Scott Pounds and myself, then known as Mrs Daena Scott Brown, competed in this Bentley from 1958 to 1969. The Bentley was rebuilt following a head-on car crash with a Jaguar in 1959. Returning to the racing scene in 1960, the car was lightened, lowered and shortened in the rebuild. Noted amongst the car's many past successes was the record of 119.75 mph over the flying kilometre at Antwerp in 1959.

BDC Review, January 1963: "Come in Harold Pounds, 4½ litre. One of the two Antwerp cars attending this year."

I find it interesting that the oval hatch and lid have been retained in the boot section of GO 5629. This is where I sat as a young child when traveling with my parents to the various race meetings. There was no safety belt, just a piece of foam rubber for protection against the hard metal edge.
