First International Bentley 8 Litre Rally: 18-25 June, 2016

Day two and we get a parking ticket within half an hour of leaving the hotel. Oh dear! We stopped for coffee and are now concerned that Bentley Motors will be getting a fine to pay. Frank assures us not to worry too much, but we do. If you are reading this Bentley Motors -- it was all our fault… sorry.

We arrive at the Museum of Art and Cars in Singen. It's a funky modern building that is concerned with the dialogue between cars, art and architecture. The group I am with listens with interest about the artist, Marcello Mondazzi, whose smokey glass work is on display. Our guide, Jennifer, though starts to get into trouble when we hit the ground floor and the early cars on display. Poor thing – she tries to keep going but the guys are gone… under the cars, discussing chassis construction and telling her things she didn’t know. She bows to their greater knowledge, smiles and gives up.

That evening our spirits are high and we are entertained by the Kaltenbrunner Duo in traditional Bavarian style. The Bentley Boys play a very silly, very funny, musical hat game that presumably dates back centuries. You needed to drink a great deal of the local wine to appreciate its complexity... really… .
