Shipping a car overseas can make you rather nervous. I imported and exported cars from around the world in the 1970s through the early 1990s as a business and my experiences were not always to my liking. Once again, I am shipping a car and this time it seems easier since there are shippers devoted exclusively to handling cars. After getting recommendations from two very experienced collector car related businesses, I am now working with two companies that service England, Europe and the USA. They are www.CarsEurope.net and www.HorizonAutoShipping.com. By next month, I will be able to relate my experience with you as both companies are involved in shipping my Three Litre from Houston to England for the Jim Pearce restoration and then touring in England, including the 2016 BDC Silverstone meet. If you are planning to ship your car abroad, maybe my experience will be of interest.

Looking for a tour in America? David Smith, Richard Freestone and Richard Farr are organizing a 28-day tour from England to New Orleans and on to Washington DC during late April to May 2017. David can be contacted at grovesmith@btinternet.com.

I would like to thank the following vintage Bentley enthusiasts for their recent contributions to VintageBentleys.org:

Incredibly rare 1928 car that was taken apart and kept in BOXES for more than 50 years is finally restored to its former glory
By Mark Duell for MailOnline
A Bentley taken apart and kept in boxes for more than 50 years has been restored to its former glory and now could be worth £800,000. The dismantled 1928 4.5-litre Drop Head UP2100 was found at a three-storey house after its owner Stuart Wallace died last year aged 75. Only eight of the rare vehicles were made, and this model's parts had been gathering dust at the home in Richmond, south-west London. Former English teacher Mr Wallace bought the car for £280 in 1962 but could not afford to run it because he was a student at the time. And with nowhere to store it, he took apart the components and kept them at his townhouse where they remained for 58 years. He even kept a log of every part with photographs - and some were stored in jars of oil in the hope that one day it would be restored. But Mr Wallace's wish only came true after his death when his daughter Bea Wallace-Hartstone called in a specialist Bentley dealership. A team of 12 specialists from the Medcalf Collection then spent ten months putting the pieces together to make it fully driveable again.

A Case of Misrepresentation?

In September 2015, AutoCherish.com put up a vintage Bentley car for sale stating the Chassis no. to be 110 and Reg no. SV 4513. We posted the details on VintageBentleys.org, only to receive a prompt rebuttal from Lionel Burrell on Sep 29 (who is owner of 110), saying, "The recent addition is not my car, please could you remove it from my listing. It is a reproduction of my car. I bought my car in the 1960, from the last owner who had the car from 1947 till I bought it. I have never put my car up for SALE."

The car photos and other details were found to be replaced on the AutoCherish website with a notice stating, "No longer available - Sold or withdrawn from sale". The AutoCherish car photo and other details have since been moved to our Bentley Specials section. - VintageBentleys.org

From our readers

Hi Robert. Many thanks for another superb newsletter. I'm pleased to read that your own Bentley is nearing completion after being off the road for so long. The advantages of retirement! (it's just the lack of income that's sometimes a problem). Glad you enjoyed BDC in the UK. I'm still nowhere near owning a Vintage Bentley and being also retired now, that's unlikely without a lottery win!

However, I will get to see a few Bentleys at the Circuit des Remparts meeting at Angouleme France in two weeks time. As you probably know, it's an annual event that is second only to Le Mans. Vintage cars galore running around the Charente and on the Sunday, racing around the old city ramparts — hence the name of the event. This year it's on the 18th, 19th and 20th September. The 76th anniversary. I'm preparing my old MG, (pretending it's a Speed Six).

Please keep up the wonderful newsletter and website. I look forward to seeing the pictures of you driving the 3 litre.
