Are Vintage Bentley sales adjusting to the economy? Fewer Vintage Bentleys are on the market, whether at car dealers, auctions, or for sale by individuals. And of those that are available, many are not high quality restorations nor are they very original. It used to be that our cars were sought after mostly for the enjoyment they gave us on the road but now they have become investments first, and fun second. Will prices continue to increase dramatically, stabilize or drop?

If you watch market activity you will notice that most cars get passed from one dealer to another and if sold, the car soon appears again at a higher price. It appears that a lot of cars were bought just to be sold at a profit only for them to find a market with a lot more sellers than buyers. Neither buyers nor sellers seem to be real enthusiasts, but investors lacking knowledge. We would like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

VintageBentleys.org is not a web site that dwells on car prices. Our emphasis in on Bentley history, the history of each car by chassis number and the ownership and restoration of the cars. But when we buy a vintage Bentley we want to know it will increase in value as well as provide us years of pleasure. After all, when buying a Bentley, we have to rationalize to our wives that we can sell it for more than we paid for it. That worked for me.

I would also like to thank the following vintage Bentley enthusiasts for their contributions in January 2013:

Anders Tysk, Annie Stevens, Anton van Luijk, Bill Barron, Brian Rivett, Card Christopher, Dr. Frank Newton, Greg Porter, Jeremy Thompson, John Victor Cooper, John Murch, John Smith, Keith Carnelley, Lars Hedborg, Phillip Schudmak, Pipo Aymamí, Robert Grounds, Susan Hesketh, Tim Summers, Tom Heckman (A few of the contributions are queued up and will be published in the next few days.)

Trans-European camping road trip… in a 1926 Bentley

"When one thinks about doing a camping trip of a life time – a 4100-km grand tour of Europe – they think long and hard about what type of car they should take on such a journey. They may think of taking a VW Westfalia or a Volvo wagon. Maybe even a small SUV. What doesn’t come to anyone’s mind is taking an antique Bentley.

Well, nobody except Anthony Belcher..."

Article from 1924
Bentley Wins 24-hour Race at Le Mans

Published in "The Motor", June 17, 1924

With a thrilling roar and the clash of Bendix pinions 41 self-starters come to use, and 40 engines spring to life. All, that is, with the exception of poor Montier's wonderfully speeded-up Ford, which splutters and bangs and will not start until half a dozen depressions of the starter button, when he rushes gamely off in the rear of the procession... Duff on the other hand, pulls his hood, secures in like lightning to the screen pillars and roars off in a babel of warm-heated applause...

Instruction Books - The starting point
3 Litre :: 6½ Litre :: 4½ Litre :: 8 Litre :: 4 Litre

It is surprising how many owners do not possess the 'Instruction Book' for their vintage Bentleys. When it comes to restoration, the little Instruction Books are a good place to begin... You will find one for each model here.

If you want a copy to keep, just request us for a convenient PDF download.
