Would
you like a brand new "original" Blower
Bentley team car and not have to go to an auction
and pay top dollar? How about several of them
to start a vintage racing team? The more you buy,
the cheaper they are. We can all have one and
at the BDC Silverstone annual meet we can have
an event just for all the Blower Bentley team
cars that show up. This is not a joke but reality.
Not way off in the future but within a few years
and manufacture of vintage cars has already begun.
Have a Vintage Bentley and new parts? Any part?
They are all going to be available. This is not
fiction. Cars have already been reproduced identical
to originals.
"Fused Innovation has four 3D rapid prototyping
machines: a 3D Systems stereolithography machine;
a Z Corp fused-powder machine for making casting
molds; an Objet polyjet machine that uses inkjet-printer
technology to make solid parts; and an Optimax
machine originally designed for creating lenses
that the shop repurposed for making solid metal
components. With this battery of machines, Fused
Innovation is able to re-create nearly anything."
"There's a lot more to come as shops where
the public and print 3D models spread around the
nation. [US] Congressman Bill Foster of Illinois
recently introduced a bill proposing the creation
of a nationwide network of such labs, one in every
congressional district, where people will have
access to 3D printing technology for their own
projects."

The
Eight-Litre: Bentley's Last is Bentley's Best
By Harvey Johnson
The 8-litre Bentley is the car considered by many to
be Walter Owen Bentley's masterpiece, as well as one
of the finest examples of the thoroughbred motorcar.
It followed a succession of Bentley automobiles whose
impact on the motoring world is held in high esteem
to this day and is all the more amazing considering
the twelve short years of the company's existence.

Behind
the Wheel: Driving the Bentley 8-Litre
By Diane Brandon
It's probably best not to agree to drive an unfamiliar
car at night in the rain when the car's owner has been
over-served and can't safely be at the wheel but that's
what I did the first time I drove an 8-Litre Bentley.
After the Bentley Drivers' Club final-night banquet in
British Columbia, I was asked to drive one of the members'
cars back to a friend's home. I doubt I'd have agreed
had I'd known I'd be driving one of the 100 8-litre Bentley
cars ever built. Read

This supercharged Bentley with its
known and well documented chain of ownership that has
kept it in the public eye virtually from day one, has
survived incredibly well. The car has never suffered
the indignities of some of its brothers, such as being
parted out and then reconfigured, or crashed and rebuilt
multiple times. It looks every bit the 'war machine',
but has no evidence of any battles. Importantly, MS
3944 today retains virtually every numbered mechanical
component with which it was born.
"This car has been owned
by my family since 1957. Purchased by my father from
J.S. Inskip, Inc in New York City. Car was originally
owned from new by H. Leeson Esq. a passionate Bentley
owner. The car was originally commissioned by Leeson
as a "Le Mans" model with chassis and coachwork
to the Le Mans pattern. Such vehicles were quite rare.
The car was also previously owned by the very famous
collector Cameron Peck. It was also owned in Canada
by Johnson for a very short period."

Belinda
Noble is looking for her great aunt Miss Nora (Hardy)
McCaw's vintage Bentley cars |
|
"I am trying to gather facts and
write about my rather mysterious and obviously speed-loving
and wealthy Great Aunt Miss Nora (Hardy) McCaw. She
owned many Bentleys in the 1930s." Belinda
Noble (nee MacCaw [Mccaw])
Can anyone help Belinda with information on the past
owners of these cars?

Article
from 1949
6½ Litre Bentley
Original factory literature produced
from article in "Motor Sport" magazine, February
1949 issue
As
early as 1925 it became apparent to the designer of
the, by then, world-famous 3-litre, that an entirely
different type of car was required, to meet the needs
of a different class of motorist. Such a car should
have the attributes of a highspeed touring chassis,
should be capable of carrying the enclosed coachwork
of the time, and should handle like a dignified town-carriage.
The development of such a car was no mean task and "W.O",
ably assisted by the redoubtable "K.M.", set
about designing a prototype based on their experience
with the 3-litre. The six-cylinder evolved closely followed
the well-tried layout of the 3-litre, but incorporated
several new features. |
