1928 Bentley 4½ Litre
Chassis No. SL3061
Engine No. SL3063 / XL3122
Registration No. YU 6281

November 2012

"SL3061 was originally a fixed-head coupe by Gurney Nutting. The 4½ Litre engine was replaced with a 3 litre during the war, the body was removed postwar and the chassis was fitted with a makeshift open body.

The car was acquired in the late 1970s by Gordon Self who embarked on a full restoration which included fitting a slightly later 4½ engine and an original VDP tourer body from another car. In all other respects SL 3061 is original. We bought it from Gordon in 1994 and it has given me 18 years of pleasure."

1932

"Owner of this car in 1932 was Stuart R Cooper. My grandfather, Bert Bailey, was employed by Stuart Cooper of Hildenborough, Kent, and was given permission by him to take this car to Paris on his behalf on 5 October 1932. I have a letter of authorisation from Mr Cooper to this effect. I have no photos I'm afraid."
