Around 1948

This car was owned by Dr. John Williams, Worcester for a couple of years around 1948.

"I don't know much about the car, but remember being allowed to sit on my father's knee and steer it at the age of 8.

It was not particularly attractive and it was a 'special' made out of a saloon sometime in the late 1930's. Imagine destroying a saloon that was only about ten years old!

I do recall father saying that the brake drums hit the road if there was a puncture, which appears to be evident in the photo on your website (last photo on this page, posted on Apr 03, 2009). I don't have any pictures taken during the time my father had the car, but do have a page from The Autocar of 4 October 1940 with a letter from the then owner (posted below), and a photo of the car, showing the wartime white "blackout" wings. He is making various points in his letter and claiming the benefits of 17 inch wheels, a chrome plated radiator, and an apron between the dumb-irons. I am not sure that these modifications would really be appreciated today!"
