"SMOKEY" started life as one of the very rare 9 foot Super sports 3 litre Bentleys, with incredible good looking JARVIS of WIMBLEDON 2-seater coachwork. Kit Baker-Carr, a senior salesman at H.M.Bentley and Partners, fitted 4½ Litre engine EXP 5, a full Le Mans race-tune engine, already a veteran of the 1927 Le Mans and Montlehery record attempts, and raced Smokey extensively at Brooklands, winning several trophies. Baker-Carr sold the car in late 1937 to South Africa. The current owner's father bought the car in 1949 and started a slow rebuild.

Spec as follows: 9 foot chassis number 1192; lowered Jarvis 2-seater racing body; 4½ Litre engine number MF3158; "D" box; 4½ Litre steering; self-wrapping brakes.

1926-1931

"My grandfather / uncle drove a 3 litre Bentley Special which he drove around Europe between 1926-1931. He (Jennison Heaton) sold it to Baker-Carr, a designer for Bentley who had it modified for racing at Brooklands. It is known as the famous 'Smoky' and apparently resides in New Zealand, so I have been informed.

I have some pictures from then and some film from that time of the car. Can check for licence plate number if required."
