"This car was bought new by my grandfather Arthur Hacking in 1927. I have
recently found this photo taken by my father at the time when the car was in use.
Maybe there are more but I have not found them yet.
The caption on this photo is 'Bentley at Bentley' (a town in Southern England
about 40 miles from London where friends of my grandparents had a country
house). I do not know how long my grandfather kept the Bentley.
It replaced
a 6 cylinder Talbot bought in 1925 and my Father told a story that my
grandfather was upset that the Bentley could not keep up with an Invicta
owned by a friend. It was replaced by a Packard (V12?) in the early 1930s --
Packard were very successful in UK at this time and my grandfather was a
friend of Leonard Williams the UK Packard importer. Sad that it has not survived -- even as a Le Mans Replica." |
