1927 Bentley 3 Litre - Speed Model
The Bentley 3 Ltr. Was a sports car model of Bentley Motors Ltd. and was first presented to the public in May 1919 - at that time still with a motor dummy. The development of the engine took a long time, which is why the first Bentley 3 Ltr. Was delivered in September 1921.
Between 1921 and 1929, a total of 1,619 chassis were produced. The last significant year of production was in 1927 with only 117 chassis.
The 3 Ltr. Came in three different variants, which differed in the wheelbase configuration and engine performance. The color of the grille emblem should identify the different types:
Red Label: With high compression engine (compression ratio 5.3: 1 & 117.5 inches wheelbase / 2,985 mm
Green Label: The high-performance model with compression ratio 6.3: 1 & short wheelbase of 108 inches (2,743 mm).
Blue Label: The standard model with 117.5 inches / 2.985 mm wheelbase or with a long wheelbase of 130 inches / 3.302 mm
The Bentley 3 Ltr. Vanden Plas Sports 2-Seater shown here was built in 1927 and is one of the rare "Red Label" speed models that Bentley Motors ltd. were built. Of this variant, there were only 513 vehicles.
The Bentley was delivered in 1927 to its first owner Stanley Davidson and remained until probably in 1954 in his possession.
From 1960 to 2014, the Bentley 3 Ltr. Was owned by Keith Schellenberg. He was a participant in the Olympic Winter Games as a sled and Bob pilot in the years 1956 and 1965.
Since 2016, the Bentley 3 Ltr. Is part of a large German collection.
In December 2016, the vehicle was tested by the well-known Bentley specialist Clare Hay.
