"Pictures taken on the way home yesterday (7th October, 2019) from a 562 mile weekend from Sammamish, WA to the Maryhill Hillclimb and show near Goldendale, WA. The car won the prewar class racing the hill and the Sam Hill trophy in the car show in very nice weather. The weather turned and we had to deal with my first flat in 22,000 miles. That is all part of the adventure."

"I have owned the car "Woolfe" since the Blue train switch was made. It has covered over 12,000 miles in the past 10 years. As you can see it works for its keep collecting our Christmas tree this year.

The current body is the VDP rep body originally fitted to the real Blue train car some time circa 1959. The chassis was converted to a speed configuration after a wreck at the factory in 1928 or 1929 with speed six engine KR 2697 installed. Those speed six parts were transfered to the current engine case TB 2539 after WW II."

This car has a very chequered history. Its first body was a Harrison limousine. According to Bentley: The Vintage Years by Michael Hay, it was rebuilt during the 1950s as a Freestone & Webb Fixed Head Coupe (ex. chassis FR 2631). It was then restored for a Swedish collector by R. C. Moss in the mid 1990's, modified to Speed Six specifications and rebodied with a H. J. Mulliner Weymann Saloon (ex BA2592). After Claire Hay's finding evidence that ex Barnato BA2592 was the actual "Blue Train" Speed Six, the saloon body was refitted to that chassis and WB2562 was rebodied as a Vanden Plas LeMans replica (c2004).

Speed Six, 'Blue Train' Bentley

We all remember the famous race Woolf Barnato had with the Blue train, the race immortalised into a painting we all have. Having researched the story however Claire Hay discovered that the car, a Gurney Nutting coupe was not finished at the time of the record and had not even been registered for the road.

The only car he had at the time was this wonderful fabric Weyman saloon and in fact the newspaper articles referred to the record car as a Saloon, not as a coupe.

Interesting problems where the immense body work restoration we undertook, no coach builder being prepared to do it for us, the lavish art deco style interior and complicated wood work.
