between 1963 and 1984.

"This car used to belong
to my late uncle, who bought
it in 1963, and sold it in 1984.
During the time he owned it,
the car was bought fitted with
a 2 door coupe body (which had
been modified at the rear).
My uncle late made and fitted
a 4 seater VDP replica body,
to a drawing from Anthony F.
Robinson & Partner, Gerards
Cross.
I have several photographs of
the car from when my uncle owned
the car, and various paperwork,
including a letter from Park
Ward confirming the body was
original..."

Further to my message of last
week, I have now found some
photographs of the 1924 Blue
Label long chassis 3 litre Bentley,
Reg. No. XU2335, chassis no
705, Engine No 708, which used
to belong to my late uncle,
J.B.H.Walker, of Bury, Lancashire
between 1963 and 1984.
It was bought as a non
runner in 1963, looking
generally as per the attached
photograph XU2335 1963 (taken
by the previous owner in the
early 1960s before my uncle
purchased it) with what started
off as a Park Ward Coupe body.
He suspected that the back end
of the body was modified at
some stage prior to the photograph
being taken, to include rear
seats and a lockable boot
door. My uncle wrote to Park
Ward to check if they had any
records of the original bodywork,
and received a letter from them
(above).
After some restoration, the
car took part in several Veteran
and Vintage Car Runs from Manchester
to Blackpool. The photos above
show the car during the 2nd
Run held on Sunday 19th April
1964.
Around 1968, my uncle replaced
this body with a 4 seat VDP
style tourer body which he built
from plans supplied by Anthony
F Robinson & Partner, Gerrards
Cross. The (1968) photo above
shows this body prior to a hood
being fitted. At this time,
he found that the woodwork for
the rear section of the Park
Ward body had been made from
orange boxes!! Thus proving
that there was definitely some
modification at some stage.
I do have some photo slides
somewhere showing the car in
its various forms. I will try
and search these out, and forward
copies to you as soon as I can.
As far as I know, there is not
much more documentation about
the car, but if you have any
queries, then please email me
and I will try to answer as
best I can.

"The above photos were taken
in 1965. Although the car looks
to be painted black, it was in
fact a very dark green, with black
wheels. The rear view shows the
modified rear end of the body,
which was probably fitted with
a dickey seat when originally
built." |

"Photographs of XU2335
from when it was being restored
in 1963, and a couple from when
the VDP replica body was being
fitted in 1968. As you will
see, when it was first restored
in 1963, the spare wheel was
located at the back of the car,
but it was later moved to the
side to allow access to the
small lockable boot (trunk).
The photos showing the VDP replica
body being fitted were taken
in 1968. One clearly shows Engine
708 with vertical SU carburettors.
For some reason, there do not
appear to be any photographs
of the car with the finished
VDP replica body. I know that
my uncle did not use the car
as much after 1968 when the
body had been fitted
maybe he regretted having done
so, as the car was then even
farther from being original!"
