"Chassis number SM 3903 was first registered on October 21st 1929 as UW 3761, the engine number being entered in the log book as SM 3907. It was owned originally by the factory and sent straight away to the Olympia Motor Show. After the show the factory retained the car and used it as a showroom demonstrator for many different Bentley dealers to promote sales. In 1932, the car passed through dealer Jack Barclay, Ltd., to its first customer, J. Weston Adamson of Yorks, a well known Bentley owner. The car was a subject of a total restoration in the early 1990's and its current condition is simply fabulous."

"Have just seen the car in the film 'Double Bunk' 1961, driven by Ian Carmichael (5mins: 40secs for a minute or two). He trades it in for a bubble car. How times change! Very glad to see that the car wasn't scrapped."

The car first appears at 00:15:26 in the Ealing film 'Birds of Prey' (which is known as The Perfect Alibi in America) from 1930 and is glimpsed again 7 or 8 more times. This is available on disc 2 of The Ealing Studios Rarities Collection Volume 4. http://networkonair.com/shop/1766-ealing-studios-rarities-collection-the-volume-4-5027626390549.html

It's being driven by Frank Lawton. The film, which stars Nigel Bruce, Jack Hawkins (in his first film) and C Aubrey Smith, is based on the play The Fourth Wall by AA Milne, creator of Winnie the Pooh. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0020694/

"This car appears in the old British film 'Birds of Prey' (1930) available on the Ealing Studios Rarities Collection Vol. 4. You may have to wait until near the end of the film but it's there!"

The first 25 production Supercharged 4½ Litre cars where Chassis Nos. SM3901-SM3925, all with "smooth-case" blowers. The next 25 were Chassis Nos. MS3926-MS3950 and had "rib-case" blowers.

Production Blower Bentleys had handbrake handles made from rectangular stainless steel, whereas the five 4½ litre race cars for Tim Birkin had the "H" section handle, but were drilled for lightness.
