"1928 BENTLEY 4½LTR LE MANS SHORT CHASSIS
Registration Number: TU 8284 Chassis Number: MF 3162 Engine Number: FT 3215
SOLD

ONE OF THE TEN VERY RARE SHORT CHASSIS 4½ LTR BUILT BY THE FACTORY.

FAB HISTORY AND SPEC.

BUILT FOR E.R.FODEN (FAMED LORRY BUILDER) THIS IS THE BENTLEY THAT BENTLEY FOLK LAW HAS BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT.

MR FODEN HAD A 3 LTR AND ORDERED IN 1926 A 6½ LTR AS HIS NEW CAR.

HE COMPLAINED TO W.O.BENTLEY THAT HE MISSED THE BLOODY THUMP OF HIS FOUR CYLINDER 3 LTR .THIS APPARENTLY WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE FACTORY TO MAKE A MORE POWERFUL FOUR CYLINDER BENTLEY THE 4½ LTR SO HE ORDERED ONE AND HERE SHE IS. DELIVERED TO HIM AS A CROSS AND ELLIS 4 SEATER TOURER IN MAY 1928.

THE REST AS THEY SAY IS HISTORY.

ALTHOUGH THE ORIGINAL BODY HAS BEEN SCRAPPED MANY YEARS BEFORE THE WAR SHE ENJOYED HER SELF WITH A BODY FROM THE 1936 EDDY HALL LE MANS CAR BEFORE BEING REBUILT WITH THE CURRENT COACHWORK SHE NOW CARRIES WHICH IS A VERY WELL EXECUTED LE MANS STYLE TOURER.

HER MECHANICAL SPEC IS RATHER GOOD TO. STILL FITTED WITH AN ORIGINAL D TYPE RACING GEAR BOX, OVERDRIVE FOR THOSE LONG TRIPS AND A SPEED SIX DIFF WHICH IS UNBREAKABLE IN A 4½ LTR.

TO TOP THIS OFF SHE HAS HAD HER ENGINE REBUILT WITH PHOENIX CRANK AND RODS.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS AN ORIGINAL SHORT CHASSIS 4½ LTR AND WILL COMMAND A FAIRLY HIGH PRICE.

SORRY NOW SOLD."
