"Hi! TD 4512 emerged from slumber today and gave my son (the 4th generation of this family) a ride with its current steward, his grandfather William C Johnson II. We have a bit of cleaning and polish to do before the British Invasion show next weekend in VT."

--

Hi Mona, TD 4512 has been in our family since 1963 and we pieced together some of its previous history from the prior ownership. It was restored in 1992 by my father and still sporadically attends shows and is driven. I can talk to my father and see if we can put together something more substantial for you if you'd like. I'm pretty sure the car was originally a black saloon and was crashed at some point, then rebodied by Hooper. I'm not sure exactly when the 4.5 was added but my father may known; it predated my grandfather's purchase. My grandfather also owned a beautiful 1936 4.25 Vanden Plas open tourer which is also still in the extended family.

I'm going to be working on pre-show polish on Friday (Sep 15, 2017); if there is a specific detail photo you're interested in or would like let me know."

"Interested to find this, as this is my father's car. I am the one pictured driving it in the most recent shot, and the photos at the bottom are my grandfather. It is a wonderful car! It underwent a complete bare chassis restoration from 1991-1993, and is still driven regularly with gusto by my father, Bill Johnson. Wonderful to find these old pictures of it!"

Bentley is now fitted with a 110 h.p. 4½ Litre engine. Its original fabric Vanden Plas body was destroyed in an accident and its present aluminum body is by Cooper of London.

"My grandfather bought TD 4512 in 1963 from England. The previous English owner — Guy Shoesmith I believe — came over to visit the car in the 90s at my father's home. I can track down his notes on it. Talking with my father, he mentioned Shoesmith was the one who undertook the 4.5 conversion. He employed Johnny Green in England. Mike Hawthorn also drove TD 4512 while it was owned by Shoesmith, I believe."

"Looking through one of my father's old albums and Googled the reg which led me to your site. My mother thinks it was taken at Beaulieu in the late 1950s / early 1960s."
