"The car wasn't written off in the sense of today, where it would be scrapped, but it was involved in a rather serious accident. The car was rebuilt with the current body and a new engine. Car last known in South Africa in 2007 when it was for sale."

"My father, Donald Armstrong, owned this car in the early 1950s. In those days he lived in Newnham-upon-Severn. (He sold it in order to buy his beloved 1928 4½ UO 6888). He told me that he had heard it had been written off by the person to whom he sold it. (This might track with the current posted description). I have about 4 photos of it being rallied in UK."

  More Info: According to original Vanden Plas Coachbuilder records, this car was originally fitted with Body No. 3251 with a sporting 4-seater; scratched aluminium and black. It was delivered to Eric Knowles.

Michael Hay, in his book Bentley: The Vintage Years, 1997, states: "Vanden Plas body no. 3251. Salmons d/h coupe ex ch. 994 fitted after 242 crashed. Eng 244 scrapped. Engine 986 ex 994 also fitted. In South Africa."
