1924 Bentley 3 Litre
Chassis No. 515
Engine No. 522
Registration No. KK 9186 / EY 9569

October 2012

"I saw EY 9569, a 3 litre Bentley being trailered from Tanworth in Arden toward Stratford on Avon on Wednesday Oct 17, 2012. It was being pulled at a fairly high speed through the speed bumps in Ullenhall and onto the Stratford road by CN05 HFX. I presume it was being rehomed at a museum or with a private owner. Just thought that if it was important somebody at the register might need to know."

"I have been looking at an unusual 3 Litre Bentley at Betwys-y-Coed Motor Museum. The 1924 Speed Model is chassis 515, originally registered KK 9186 and first owned by L. Bosworth of London. There is no record of the original coachwork, other than it was by James Young.

"In 1927 the Bentley was involved in a collision and fitted with a new chassis. Another chassis was fitted the following year and, though it bears no numbers, it is still considered to be 515. A Mr. Nickless owned the car in 1933 but then ownership records are blank until 1947 when it was purchased by David Lloyd from Wales. The body was changed to an open tourer and the Bentley was re-registered as EY 9569.

"Lloyd competed with the car and when he retired in around 1970 he fitted hardwood strips to the body, perhaps to copy the Tulip Wood Hispano Suiza, and restyled the tail to incorporate a trunk. The Bentley last ran in the 1980s and, after Lloyd's death in 1994, was loaned to the museum by his family.
