"In 1982 Tim Houlding published "The Legends and the Thunder - Number 1",
which is a 72 page treatise on EXP2. Its final chapter, 'Maturity and the
Hereafter' says that Tony Townshend acquired EXP2 in the 1950s, and that at that
time it was fitted with its third engine (144) in a production-type frame, and
sported an early Vanden Plas 4-seater body.
Of the components fitted to EXP2 when sold by Bentley Motors in 1923, only the
engine (#144), radiator, bonnet, rear axle petrol tank, steering column, gearbox
plus propshaft and associated dynamo and speedometer drives, and numerous chassis
fittings were found to be present in the car." |

"You should look into the history of Experimental No 2 and the fact that it may be sitting on a replica chassis! This car was built up from a few original EXP 2 parts by the late Gordon Russell and is now owned by the Teutonic version of Bentley Motors and probably insured for millions of pounds." |

"... remarkable
car is the 1919 Bentley EXP 2, the
second three-liter Bentley prototype
developed by Walter Owen Bentley and
his team, and now the oldest surviving
Bentley in the world. Even by modern
standards, the 1919 Bentley EXP 2
is impressive, its engine sporting
four valves per cylinder in a pent-roof
combustion chamber, cross-flow heads,
overhead cam and two plugs per cylinder.
In 1919 it was extraordinary."
"The three-liter Bentley was
the benchmark for all subsequent Bentley
models and proved a fast yet docile
and superb handling car, capable of
sustained high speeds and also highly
durable and reliable." |
