This magnificent Bentley was commissioned
by the late Gordon Russell a famous
Bentley Engineer and collector. Chassis
671 started life as a standard 3 litre,
Engine 651 and featured in the Hayes
Book of Vintage Bentleys.
In 1993 it was rebodied with this
beautiful Bob Tail Tourer by Elmdown
Engineering and the engine uprated
to 4.9 litre with a Phoenix crank
and rods fitted. Due to Mr Russels
old age it was decided to make this
Bentley completely unique, totally
user friendly and a complete delight
to drive in all road conditions including
around town! Mr Russel specified an
automatic Jaguar gearbox be fitted
with overdrive! The charging system
was uprated to an alternator, brakes
were hydraulic and modern telescopic
shock absorbers were fitted with the
provision they could be converted
back to Andre Hartford shocks if desired.
The cockpit is appointed with the
finest connolly leather and fitted
with Le Mans 4 1/2 litre instrumentation
including blower, oil and water guages.
The handbrake was relocated inside
the car to aid ease of use. A 4 1/2
litre radiator was installed to aid
cooling of the uprated engine, a hand
made gas flowed exhaust fitted, a
4 1/2 racing fuel tank along with
Le Mans filler cap, a 4 1/2 steering
box fitted and slightly smaller diameter
wheels fitted to aid access with wider
tyres on the back giving it an aggressive
stance. The chassis is fitted with
4 1/2 strutt gear and power is delivered
to the wheels via 8 litre drive shafts!
The workmanship is really second to
none and it all works extremely well,
including the indicators! This really
is a super car, ideal for rallies,
long distant cruising or just popping
to the shops! Simply exquisite!
