"Dear Robert,
It was nice to see the painting of the late Reg Loney's 3ltr., chassis
1109 on your excellent newsletter.
I am privileged to be the present owner of this wonderful Bentley. It is
back in Ireland now, and only three miles away from the original owner — Ernest Bewley's — home" |

"This car was on the South African Tour on its 1st outing in 1995 after a 27-year rebuild. It was nicknamed the Mandela car because it took the same number of years
to rebuild as the 27 years he was in jail." |

"I have a painting I inherited of my late uncle Reg Loney and his c1925
Bentley. He bought the Bentley in the UK and shipped it to South Africa in the '60s. Then he
stripped it down to the last nut and bolt (which was the last time I saw it, around 1964) and re-built it to Veteran standards. He
rallied in it regularly as a member of one of the veteran car clubs in Johannesburg.
I believe he was president of that club too as recently as 1993 but I can't find any info on him. If anyone knows something more on this and what has become of the car, I'd be most pleased to hear it. I'm trying to put something
together about my family history." |
