"Yesterday afternoon 13/6/19 on my drive into London on the A1 I came upon and followed this beautiful 1925 Bentley 3 litre Reg No CWO 121. It was raining and driver and passenger suitably dressed as the hood was down. The burble exhaust noise was music and deep. We went through the Galleria Tunnel and the noise amplified above the other traffic. It was wonderful. Just before this a car merged in front of the Bentley without giving way, but, the Bentley deftly drifted off to the right and snuck back into its lane. Fabulous, I was emotional and so wanting to cherish and enjoy a Bentley sculpture like this one, before my time is up in around 65 years time!!!"

"Blimey, that’s a surprise! You’ve shown a photo’ of my car which I’ve not seen before. (Newsletter - June 2018)
Firstly, I’ll explain that the photo has to be 1938 or later. That’s because you can see the registration is CWO 121, which is a Monmouthshire number issued at that time. John Chaston, or his father who owned Chaston’s garage in Blackwood, South Wales, had re-registered the car from its originally issued London number in 1925. They bought the car in late 1937 or 1938 from the first owner, Brian Kelly.
I have been to the end of the world and back to discover that original registration. It does not appear anywhere in factory or VDP records, and I have scoured the country trying to find it, or early photographs from when Brian owned the car.
In 1938 the Chastons employed a coachbuilder, ‘Mr Butler’, who remodelled the car’s rear end to make it a bit sportier than the original VDP tub style, however, the body remained largely original elsewhere. John Chaston explained all this to me a few years ago, and that when he went off with his regiment in the War, he thinks his father sold the car to Mr Chamberlain from Weston Super Mare.
After the War, my car was owned by Stanley Coldham, a well known Cooper 500 racing driver. It appeared at a very early BDC meeting and has been in the club ever since." |

"Hello VintageBentleys.org,
So sorry to trouble you but just a
hope you can put my mind at rest.
On 1st May 2015 there was a dreadful
road accident outside our property.
My husband and I were first on the
scene and spent time with the people
involved until help arrived.
The road was closed for hours and
it is only now that telegraph poles
have been replaced and we have Internet
and phones again.
The one vehicle was a Bentley Reg
CWO 121 and we understand the driver
was Vivian Bush. He and his lady passenger
both left in two air ambulances and
we simply wish to send our best wishes
to them and hope that they are ok.
They were both in a very bad way when
we last saw them.
Sorry to trouble you but after finding
pictures of the car on your site thought
perhaps somebody may known how they
are.
Kind regards
Sally & Dave Hiams" |

"Bentleys registered
CWO 121 on the M20 on Thursday June
12, 2014"
"I was looking
for coaches on the M20 when I saw
two Bentleys in tandem coastbound
two days ago. One was CWO 121, the
other registered KNF
989. I would welcome any info
you can provide for my own records.
I have forwarded a copy of two pics
I snapped between junctions 4 and
5. Both looked lovely, I have to say!" |

"My father often told me about his Bentley. This is an original sepia photo of him in it which I am happy to give to the current owner. Is it a Bobtail?
I believe this car belonged to my grandfather Edmund George Howell, a
Cardiff pharmacist. The registration looks like CWO 121. I guess it was taken in the 20s or 30s on Manor Way in
Cardiff. My father told me that it was in the garage during the War and was damaged
by a bomb. I do not know more than this I am sorry to say." |
