"Hello Mona, We do have a few pre-war images which I will dig out, scan and send to you.
We do have a record of owners post 1946 from the BDC (which we are not members of) but Jim Drewett (Linda's father, swapped it, straight swap no money either way) for an Austin 7 Saloon. In context "back from the war RAF, new wife, petrol rationing, be sensible, get an Austin". When we bought it I offered the owner in South Africa one our Austin 7s in exchange... it was not accepted. I will send you these. The second owner in around 1929 was Georges Volkert a very well known aircraft designer of the time.
Michael Hay's book (see bottom of page) is incorrect. It never went to New Zealand but was extensively rebuilt between 1931 and 1935 when Linda's dad bought it. A bad accident in 1930ish which needed a new bonnet, steering box and more.
The car is very much Chassis 1060 although some changes about which I am shortly to find out more. When we bought it I rebuilt the engine which was very sad but managed to use original crank, rods and all external bits including crankcase and block.
It is now time for the first rebuild since 1930 which I will do myself at home. Body off, all parts apart and back together not as a glossy two-pack paint job but as it should be.
I intend to record it all and if you have a facility for it on your site could write a "blog" on progress with images.
Thank you for your great site. A good non-affiliated service." |
