Hi Rob, Its a long time
since I struggled with your lathe in Housten.
The oil filter mods were originally made
by Len Wilton and have been copied through
the decades. The problem with this solution
is that if the oil system contains water,
say from a leaking drain tube gasket, then
the filter will self destruct blocking the
oilways with disastrous results. If fitting
such a filter system is desired, then a
pressure actuated bypass valve should be
fitted. Its probably best to fit a modern
filter which has the bypass inegral with
the unit.
