This model of 4 1/2 litre Bentley (1930)
ran only once in Grand Prix racing, but on this solitary
appearance in the French Grand Prix of 1930 Sir H. R.
S. Birkin achieved second place, and although beaten
by a 2-litre Type 35 Bugatti, he, in turn, beat a large
number of similar models. There is, therefore, every
justification for including the Bentley in these articles
as one of the links in the chain of motor-racing history.
